NO TROUBLE AT THE MILL...

Survey and Excavation in Woodchester Park, Gloucestershire, 2007

During 2007 CA completed a number of phases of work within Woodchester Park, set within a picturesque valley in the heart of the Cotswold Hills. This is a large park owned and curated by the National Trust, landscaped in the 18th and 19th Centuries. The work here continued our partnership with the Trust at Woodchester, which commenced with documentart research and field survey in February 2003, and was completed by CA during alteration works to the historic dams of the five lakes located within the grounds. This work told us about the original construction of the dams, exposing walls associated with the earliest phases of work.

This time, the work focused solely on the eastern-most lake, Park Mill Pond. As this is closest to the village of Inchbrook, it was a legal requirement that the National Trust constructed a new spillway in case of excess rainfall and subsequent overflow of the lakes and dams leading to flooding.
