Assessing
Aggregates - Page 3 of 3THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING ARCHAEOLOGISTS...Continued...The work undertaken (and close to completion) allows us to integrate a number of resources. The most important of these is the enhancing of the Historic Environment Record (HER) that curates all known sites, excavations, finds and much more for the County. By integrating wider resources through using reports, digital mapping and previous excavation material a more complete record is at the fingertips of curatorial archaeologists to ensure total coverage with regard to understanding the potential. The work being completed for the archaeological resource assessment ties in well with other excavations undertaken by CA in the County of Worcestershire, especially with work we completed at Saxon's Lode Farm, Ryall. This was excavated a few years ago and originally highlighted in our annual review. A great deal of the post-excavation work has now been completed on this site and it is now close to publication within the county journal. These excavations uncovered a wealth of material that provides a number of important additions to the understanding of lowland landscapes within Worcestershire and England. With no previous record of Saxon or Iron Age activity within the immediate vicinity, this work made significant contributions to the record of the County. Excavations such as these also allow us to update and develop the work that has been collated for the archaeological resource assessment. The contribution of CA through period discussions on the one hand and excavation on the other, has helped to develop the resource assessment for the County that will help to develop a greater knowledge of potential material before it is excavated, extracted and ultimately destroyed.
